C Vibius Trebonianus Gallus succeeded Trajan Decius in 251 AD. War with the Goths and an epidemic raged during his reign, carrying off Hostilian, his co-emperor. After Aemilian defeated the Goths and was proclaimed emperor, Gallus and his son Volusian were murdered by their own troops in 253 AD.
