M Salvius Otho was a close friend of Nero and governor of Lusitania. During the turbulent year of 69 AD during the civil wars following the death of Nero, he initially backing Galba. Subsequently he turned on Galba after being spurned as Galba's designated successor, and had Galba killed, only to be defeated by Vitellius in turn after only a few months on the throne.
