Gaius Valens Hostilianus Messius Quintvs was born about 235 to Herennia Etruscilla and Trajan Decius, and was Herennius Etruscus' brother. Decius became Emperor in August, 249, and in 250 he and Etruscus embarked on a campaign against the Goths, while Hostilian stayed in Rome. Hostilian was named Caesar in early 251, and co-Augustus with Trebonianus Gallus after Etruscus and Decius were slain by the Goths at Abrittus in July, 251. Hostilian died of plague four months later in November, 251.
