Servius Sulpicius Galba (ruled 68-69AD) was born in 3 BC to Gaius Sulpicius Galba, a former consul, and his first wife Mummia Achaica. Galba served as Governor of Aquitania, consul in 33, commander of the Rhine legions, and proconsul in Africa (44-45) before retiring. He was recalled by Nero in 60 to be Governor of Hispania Tarraconensis, and was still there in 68 when the Rhine legions revolted against Nero, and Galba joined the revolt. Nero committed suicide on June 9, 68, and Galba was proclaimed. He quickly alienated the army and people, and was killed by a coup of Otho and the Praetorians on January 15, 69.
