RIC 118 of Civil Wars
Civil Wars Denarius, of Military Mint in Southern Gaul. 69 AD. FIDES MILITVM, clasped hands / CONCORDIA PRAETORIANORVM, Concordia standing left with branch & cornucopiae.
Lot No.1235A. Fine. 3.2grams.
$ 425.
This coin was produced at a military mint in southern Gaul. The current thinking is that this was in Colonia Agrippinensium (Cologne) in lower Germany, between the autumn of 68 AD, after the accession of Galba, and April 69, when Vitellius, now backed by the armies of the German provinces, began his movement against Otho. The legend FIDES PRAETORIANORVM is thought to represent Vitellius seeking the support of the Praetorians against Galba.
In 68-69 AD, after the suicide of Nero, Civil War broke out between various competing factions of Galba, Otho, Vitellius and others.
