Lot No.2007. Roman bronze ritual patera, with a handle in the form of a wolf with inlaid silver eyes, and silver bands along the shaft. Thw wolf is in excellent condition and is very realistic with sharp teeth. There is a fascinating pattern along the edge of leaping dolphins. A beautiful artifact, with some expert restoration on the bottom of the pan. The size of a large skillet! Approximately 100 BC to 300 AD.

The Patera was used in ritual sacrifices, and can be seen on numerous ancient coins where dieties are pouring grain or liquor from them into altars before them. This artifact was likely used in a temple, where the priest/priestesses performed ceremonies to propitiate the god or goddess of the temple with food or drink.
